How to Know When Your Pet Is Unwell

When taking care of pets, it can be difficult to know when they are unwell. Unlike people, pets do not speak like us or communicate in clear ways. There are ways to tell, however, if your pet is sick. This all requires you to know and understand your pet well enough when they are healthy so you can understand and detect any changes. Many pet ailments, like a dog ear infection, would be difficult for you to know of especially since the dog would not be able to tell you. If you suspect your pet is not feeling well, it is always important to visit the vet immediately and get medical help as soon as possible. Here are some of the ways you can tell if your pet is unwell.

Body Language

from living with your pet, you know how they interact with you and their general body movements. When and if they are unwell, this will likely change. If your pet is usually really active around your ad likes to play but suddenly rarely does that, there is a chance something is wrong. It is important to fully understand your pet as this is one of the best and only forms to help you understand if they are unwell. In the event that they are just tired or taking a break on that particular day then the changes in their body language should not extend for long.

Eating Habits

Eating is one thing pets and humans have in common. When we fall sick, we lack an appetite and fail to eat. The same applies to pets, if you have been endlessly feeding your pet its favorite food and it does not seem to want to eat anything then it is probably time to get it checked out. Not eating on its own is not healthy and could have consequences to the health of your pet. So, either way, your pet could be avoiding food because it’s sick, or avoiding food could cause your pet to be sick. It is important to get them checked soon.

Age

It is important to keep track of how old your pet is. Remember pets age too. It is completely natural for your pet to slow down as they grow, people do too. However, as they grow older, they will also need more time and attention from you. This means changing their diet and making sure they consume food that is healthy and maintains their life. Sometimes your pet isn’t sick, it is just really old and needs a change of diet and some exercise to make it better.
